In my book,
Warned: Canada's Revolution Against Faith, Family and Freedom Threatens America (to be released end of November 10, 2006), I argue, in the last chapter called "Vigilance," that social conservatives need to stop worrying about their "charitable status" and start becoming partisan on the issues so that they can effectively advance a social conservative agenda.
Here is what I wrote:
| In the fight over gay "marriage" in Canada, the only thing that "non-partisanship" got us was a one-way ticket to gay "marriage". All the "good guy" Liberals, the pro-life ones, and the ones who were opposed to gay marriage, never managed to get into a position of influence. As a result, social conservatives were divided in their party loyalties and effectively frozen out of decision-making in Ottawa due to the failure to give the Conservative party an election win for 13 years. The only thing non-partisanship did was empower the Liberal regime to continue unimpeded as it marched forward destroying Canada's Judeo-Christian foundation. |
After what I've witnessed this past week, I feel even more strongly about this point because our non-partisan approach is hindering us from unilaterally throwing our vocal, visible and public support behind the first leader in decades who has made real changes to advance social conservative ideas.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper has done more than throw us a few symbolic bones—something we socons have come to expect from our politicians. By appointing David Brown to the Ontario Superior Court and by ending the funding for the Court Challenges Program, Harper has shown that he understands the root political causes of the federal government's decade-old assault on faith, family and freedom.
Court Challenges Program funding has financed our opposition for years. Without this taxpayer money, these enemies of equality can't advance their radical agenda. Harper also cut the funding for the radical anti-family Law Commission of Canada. With these moves, Harper and his Conservative Cabinet have also shown that they understand that important social conservative policy initiatives are consistent with the demands of responsible economic conservatism.
What is more important, symbolic gestures or a systematic dismantling of the liberal juggernaut in Ottawa?
By appointing David Brown and slashing funding to the CCP, Harper has signaled his dedication to dismantling liberal sacred cows. And in my opinion this is far more important then holding a free vote on whether or not to revisit the marriage issue at this time when we don't have the votes in the House of Commons.
The free vote is a gesture that is sure to fail at this time.
But by appointing judge Brown, Harper signals a long-term commitment to faith, family and freedom as well as to true equality, justice and liberty. And by slashing the funds that our opponents rely on (because they can't raise money without government handouts) Harper is willing to level the playing field so that pro-family Canadians can fight the radicals in an even-handed battle.
Harper seems serious about cutting into liberal institutionalism.
If we are serious about defending faith, family and freedom, we need to abandon our non-partisan approach to third party advocacy, and get behind Stephen Harper and help him secure a majority in the next election. Secondly, and this is crucial right now (since the leftwing media is out for Harper's blood), we need to do more than throw symbolic epithets at Harper.
Quiet admiration, sideline applause and backdoor back-slapping won't do.
If we are serious about defending social conservative values, then we need to come out publicly, visibly, and vocally. If the leftwing media is going to call it "open season" on Harper, the base needs to rally behind him right now and let them know: "Not without a fight from us!"
Here is what I suggest we do today.
Write a letter to the editor of every newspaper. Call every talkshow. Put out ads. Whatever. Tell our drive-by-media that the base is with Harper.
We owe him that much.
Thanks Stephen and may God bless you too!

WARNED
Canada's Revolution Against Faith, Family and Freedom Threatens America by Tristan Emmanuel
This book is essential reading for both Americans and Canadians even though it is more particularly directed to our American friends. Both countries face a serious challenge to their cultures. This book exposes the radical exploitation of Canada at the hands of extremist activists, leftwing politicians and a plethora of crusading Supreme Court judges, who are using their status in Canada to get at America. Their aim is marriage. But the prize is America. They want to use marriage as a weapon to systematically destroy the Judeo-Christian civilization of North America, but to do that they need America to "go gay". Gay "marriage" will open up the rest of America to the demands of the homosexual political movement. Everything from school curriculum to parental rights, adoption, the age of consent and religious freedoms will be up for grabs once "gay marriage" is made legal in America. Unless socons in both countries unite and work to resist these political opponents, we can kiss our continent good-bye.
