Freedom-snatching Commie-Commissions
Friday, August 10, 2007

Students of history will have heard of SMERSH. It was a forerunner of the KGB, a Communist Party commissariat under Josef Stalin. SMERSH was empowered to investigate and arrest conspirators and public critics of "the Party" - people living in the former Soviet Union didn't have constitutional freedoms.

Well, Canada has its own commissariats, in the form of Human Rights Commissions.

Some people refer to them as "kangaroo courts," but that is misleading because they really are dangerous. That's why I call them Commie-Commissions, and like SMERSH, they are empowered to investigate anyone who does not abide with the current stream of political correctness.

The most recent case that illustrates the Commie-Commissions' contempt for free speech rights is a complaint against Connie Wilkins, the owner of www.freedominion.ca.

Has the culture
abandoned motherhood?
Last week she received an unregistered letter from one of these Commie-Commissions. Someone had complained about her website, and the commission dutifully assigned an officer to investigate.

Here is the letter, dated July 16, 2007:

    Dear Ms. Wilkins:

I am the investigator designated under Part III of the Canadian Human Rights Act to investigate the complaint of Ms. [name omitted] against Free Dominion. As the investigator, it is my responsibility to gather the evidence in relation to the complainant's allegations and, once the investigation is complete, to report on my findings to the members of the Commission.

The report will include a recommendation for the disposition of the complaint. I can recommend that a conciliator be appointed; if the evidence supports the allegations. ... I can also recommend to the Commission that a settlement be approved if the parties reach an agreement during the course of the investigation.

I am currently awaiting your full response to the allegations, which is due on 18 July 2007.
Did you catch the dates? The letter was sent on July 16. The response was supposed to be filed by July 18, the very day it hit Ms. Wilkins' mailbox. Notice also that the specifics of the "allegations" were not itemized. (Apparently, this is what constitutes due process.)

It turns out the central issue in the "complaint" has to do with a discussion on the Danish/Muslim cartoon debacle last year.

Here's a small sampling of the thread posted on Ms. Wilkins' forum:

What is the bigger crime: beheading defenseless teenage girls on their way to school, murdering millions of Christians in Sudan, beheading religious dissidents in Saudi Arabia, stoning female ... rape victims in Nigeria, burning churches and embassies - or drawing a cartoon of a mere man, whom Muslims choose to believe is the ultimate prophet? Islamic fundamentalists demand respect from people who don't even believe the claims of their prophet, but show very little respect to non-Muslim men, women and children by subjecting them to brutal acts of violence, discrimination and intimidation.
Apparently, someone found this comment (and some accompanying pictures) so demeaning and offensive they filed a complaint to limit Ms. Wilkins' right to post them to the Web. Remember, these were words another blogger had put on Wilkins' forum.

Now, there are many things I'd like to say about the state of free speech in Canada, but Americans really only need to be clear about three central points.

In the first place, so far no Commie-Commission in Canada has ever actually gone after the real hate mongers. You know, the ones who protest Israel's right to exist, who have threatened to annihilate all Westerners - and have actively participated as enemy combatants against Canadian troops in Afghanistan, only to come back to Canada for "sanctuary" and socialized medicine.

Everybody knows they exist in Canada. The CBC even did a news report on one such "terrorist" family, but never once has a commissioner investigated them; there haven't even been any complaints filed that I know of.

The second point is uniquely ironic. The Commie-Commissions have apparently decided they will defend two groups at the expense of everyone else's constitutional rights. But the grand irony is these two protected groups actually hate each other.

I'm speaking, of course, of homosexuals and Muslims. In the case of at least some in the Muslim community, they'd be just as happy to kill a homosexual as they would to behead a convert to Christianity or annihilate the state of Israel. Moreover, and this is where the irony is punctuated with brazen hypocrisy, the homosexual community stays away from openly criticizing Muslims - even though they know that some of them would just as happily murder a homosexual as they would decapitate a young Christian girl. Instead, they prefer to target that great nemesis - conservative Christians, those people who believe homosexuals are in sin, but can find mercy in Jesus.

Perhaps it's a case of the enemy (Muslims) of my enemy (conservative Christians) becoming a useful idiot in the hands of militant secularists?

But whatever the reasons, the Commie-Commissions have determined that criticism of either homosexuals or Muslims is strictly off limits, even if the critiques are rooted in verifiable truth.

And finally, and most importantly, remember that America is the last bastion of real political freedom left in the world. Most other Western democracies have bought into the hate-crimes propaganda, surrendering their constitutional liberties to those arrogant elites at the U.N. who want power and control and who are prepared to stuff political correctness down our throats even if that means muzzling free speech.

Commie-Commissions are as dangerous as SMERSH - don't let them set foot in your country.

Yours for our culture,
